Asa's Clubhouse Bed

If you know me, you know that I come up with big ideas.  Sometimes they take more than just me and my skill to accomplish, and lots of time.

It all started about a year ago.  Asa ad I were discussing his future bed options, while looking at www.ana-white.com.  Asa saw the clubhouse bed and it was perfect.  His room is small, so building up is perfect.  It gives him plenty of room to play.  And it will encourage his imagination as well.

So, Jason agreed.  He wasn't so sure of his skill, or our workspace (outside).  We've built a few other Ana White projects with success, but this was a whole new beast.

We started in May.  We didn't do much.  Really.  Jason thought we wouldn't ever finish it, and that maybe it wouldn't happen.

We finally decided it just had to be started, so by the end of July, it looked like this:

Then, Jason hired a helper...

We were finally getting somewhere.  All the wood was cut, and pieces were getting put together.

Jason clamped it all together, and we were impressed.

Then he got to sanding, conditioning, and sealing it.  With this heat wave, it was not easy.  I wish I would have gotten a picture of him sealing it in the dark.  It was really something.  Of course, at this point he just wanted it done!

Today was the day.  We struggled getting it into the house.  Seriously, the two biggest pieces were awkward and heavy.  We got it all inside.

Then we got things started!  It was exciting.  Asa was running around crazy.  He was excited that his mattress was in the living room.  He had to have his workbench brought in so he could help.  We started piecing things together.

And then this part of the journey was finished!  It's no surprise that he loves it.  I'm amazed that he is sleeping in it.  He was so excited that he didn't nap this afternoon.  So here it is.  We plan on adding window grids and curtains.  His room will get some more big boy decorations as well, but we are all happy.

Sewing Binge

So, I have been on an intense sewing streak.  Recently I participated in Kids Clothing Sewing Week.  I continued from there.  Item after item for Asa.  He loves them all.  But, I decided it was time to sew for me.  I needed a new wallet, as my current one is starting to fall apart.  I chose the StudioCherie Professional Zip Around Wallet.  It's the look and security I want in a wallet.  But, you can tell that it is a challenge.

I bought it after looking at it for a few weeks.  I decided to put my intimidation aside, and go for it.  Well, after I bought it, I bought several patterns for Asa.  I sewed for kids week.  Life happened.  Well, I decided it was time.  I printed and cut out my pattern.  And then I sewed some more for Asa.  Then I did some major work for my son's school, a coop preschool.  I almost went back to sewing for my son.  He just looks so good in his trendy clothes.

So, yesterday I finally cut out the fabric.  It had taken me all weekend to decide on which fabric I would be using.  Then it took me another day to figure out which fabric would go where.  You may not realize that this is a stalling technique, but it definitely is.  I knew I would need full attention when it came to sewing.

So, today I started sewing.  I read the pattern over a few times.  It's not a good sign when it doesn't "click" the first time, but, I decided to just go for it.  I'm going section by section, and only reading that section.  It is a difficult pattern, but worth the challenge.

Finished!  I persevered.  I love it!  No, it's not perfect, but it's mine.  It gets the job done, and better than my last wallet by leaps and bounds.

An Introduction to me.

So, in the past I have attempted to blog.  I believe twice now.  I don't think I was ready.  I didn't have time, etc.  I'm still short on time, but I'll work on that.

First off, who am I?  My name is Heather.  And I am a craft addict.  I am a stay at home mom who works very hard on crafting items to sell.  I also craft for my family, mostly my three year old son.  Crafting is therapy to me.  I am sure I will make that a post of its own at some point.

So, why am I attempting this again?  Because I feel that I need to put it all out here.  Besides crafting, I am a writer, though I have not picked up a pen in way too long.  The words I've been searching for have not come to me yet.  Soon.  Until then, I will entertain my creative writing skills by blogging.

What will you find here?  You will see a lot of projects for my son.  I will review patterns.  You will also hear the fun aspects of my life.  There may be a little cooking or baking going on as well.  We're a fun family, sometimes.
